Maveris Selfie - Bridget Quartey
At Maveris, we appreciate the opportunity to recognize our team members for who they are and their contribution to the team. Our “Maveris Selfie” seeks to highlight the personality, experience, and individuality of our team members.
For this selfie, we are happy to introduce Bridget Quartey!

Hi Bridget!  Can you start with an introduction of yourself and what you do at Maveris?

Hi! My name Bridget Beatrice Quartey, I’m a Security Control Assessor with team on the PARS project. I perform independent evaluations of security controls and control enhancements employed within or inherited by an information technology (IT) system to determine the overall effectivity of the controls. I live in Maryland. I’m married with two children and I enjoy cooking, reading and going for walks.

How do you prefer to start your day?

I usually start my day with a prayer and a cup of warm lemon water. I do this because I prefer to start my day by talking to God first. I drink lemon water just to wake up my digestive system, also I love the taste of fresh lemon in my water instead of a plain glass of water.

What book has been most influential in your professional life?

Deep Work by Cal Newport. I love this book because basically it’s in two parts. Cal first makes the case that in almost any profession, cultivating a deep work ethic will produce huge benefits. He then presents a rigorous training regimen, offered as a series of four “rules” for transforming the mind and habits to support this skill.

What book has been most influential in your personal life?

The Bible for me has a great influence in my daily walk with God as I learn more about Him. It serves as my guide to cultivate the virtues of a good Christian life. It reminds me of the wondrous deeds of God and it quickens my mind.

What advice would you give the 15 yr. old you?

I would say ‘Life is not a race’ because life has ups and downs. Learn a lesson from every setback, celebrate every success no matter how small its progress, judge no one, compete with no one, be genuinely yourself. Give everything your best shot by working hard and be honest.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a pediatrician because of my uncle, he would always make us feel so relaxed and happy we would forget we were sick. Whenever I saw any child sick, I wish I could do something to make them feel better too.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

Ruth Gottesman. There are many well-known philanthropists in the world, but I find her to be an extremely caring person to offer to pay the tuition of several students that she’s never met and will never meet. To take the burden of medical school tuition off the shoulders of so many families and hopefully these future doctors can offer a helping hand to patients or other people who need help. The lesson Ruth Gottesman has taught us is that you don’t have to know someone to help and make not only a difference but a positive impact in their life.

In Bridget’s nomination for a Maveris Selfie she was described as “super kind” and a “hidden gem of a person [who] needs to be highlighted.” The characteristics that earn those kind words go farther than describing Bridget as a hard working professional and show the difference that we look for in our team members.
