For this selfie, we are happy to introduce Christine King!
My name is Christine and I joined Maveris in January 2021. A lot of folks at Maveris have known me from way back when, working at the VA NSOC (now the CSOC). I left for a few years to work at Booz Allen Hamilton, but I guess the saying is true, “you’ll come back”. Brian and Bill originally brought me on to work the ITPI contract (the Maveris folks in ITPI were great!), but I’ve settled into a talented little team on the CSOC CTS R&D department as a Cybersecurity Solutions Architect.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
It depends on the time of year, but generally if I’m at home I’m tending to the garden or other things around the property (we have various farm animals and a small orchard). If I’m not at home, I can usually be found mountain biking, rock climbing, or skiing. I think I have a bit more sports gear than the average person, but my biking friends will agree that you can’t have too many bikes!
Do you have any pets?
We got a dog from a relative two years ago that my daughter was very excited for. But the dog quickly became my shadow, so I guess she’s my dog! I never imagined having a dog, so I think I’m still learning how to be a dog person. But we have a couple cats as well, so everyone has a pet. One of the cats doesn’t have a name because we couldn’t agree on a name. So we all call him something different; I call him Mr. Farty Pants because he farted a lot as a kitten.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would have to say being able to teleport would be great. It would save so much time and money! Plus, I could visit places I’ve never been or visit my favorite places more often.
How do you take your coffee? Drip, French Press, Espresso, Pour Over, Black, Cream, Sugar, A little coffee with your favorite syrup, etc.
I don’t drink coffee! My go-to breakfast beverage is orange juice or sometimes I’ll juice some fruits and veggies.
What did you want to be when you grew up? Are you doing it?
I wanted to be a park ranger or a ski racer. I obviously haven’t made a career of either of those ambitions, but I do spend a lot of time in nature and enjoy skiing whenever possible.

Christine has wonderful technical depth and broad VA knowledge. She is a hard working, detail oriented senior SME who covers a broad range of topics depending on the issue of the day. In addition to this, Christine has a very interesting life outside Maveris that helps make her who she is. She has a lovely farm in WV and cares for land and animals in this capacity. I think this unique combination of work-life balance exemplifies the great folks we have as part of our Maveris culture.
