For this selfie, we are happy to introduce Jennie Smithson!
Hey Jennie! Can you start with an introduction of yourself and what you do at Maveris?
I handle the day-to-day payroll and HR operations at Maveris. A typical day for me consists of answering employees’ payroll- or benefits-related questions, researching payroll tax laws, and onboarding new team members. I love getting people started off on the right foot at Maveris and working closely with new hires in their first couple of weeks.
What was it about Maveris that made you interested in joining the team?
I had the opportunity to work with Maveris for a little bit prior to coming on board and was impressed at how organized and down-to-earth the team was. You don’t always get lucky finding a high quality work environment with high quality people, but Maveris had both.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I’m not afraid to admit when I don’t know something, and I ask a lot of questions. I think this breaks down walls with others and helps us all feel like we’re on the same level. It also obviously gets me going in the right direction sooner than if I had been too afraid to ask for help!
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Currently you’d find me buying paint samples, perusing the internet for rugs and furniture, and trying not to put too many unnecessary holes in my walls. #newhomeowner
What are some of your bucket list items?
Sleep in a glass igloo underneath the northern lights. Visit England, Ireland, and Hawaii. Ride in a hot air balloon. Go on an Alaskan cruise.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy and cooked carrots. I don’t think I’m ever not in the mood for that meal!
What energizes you at work?
Knowing I made someone’s day easier by answering their question or pointing them in the right direction. Human connection and service are both super important to me, so I definitely feel energized when they’re combined!
Jennie plays an important role at Maveris and interacts with every one of our team members. Her bubbly personality and genuine desire to serve sets her apart. Because of Jennie’s work, many new team members state how well defined and efficient our onboarding process is.
