The Maveris Selfie is a means for us to recognize the awesome team members we have and highlight their dedication to our customers and the team. Team members are nominated for a selfie by their team lead, their coworker, or any other team member who would like to showcase who they are and what they bring to the team.
For this selfie, we are happy to introduce Manuel Arrieta!
Hi Manuel! Can you start with an introduction of yourself and what you do at Maveris?
Hey, my name is Manuel Arrieta. I have been a Cyber Defense Analyst on the Cyber Hunt and Threat Analysis (CHTA) team since 2022. As a threat hunter, I focus on developing and testing hypotheses to identify advanced adversarial activity. My role involves extensive research into emerging threat actors and techniques, emulating attacker behavior, and building detection analytics. Additionally, I assist with high-priority incident response escalations, and provide actionable recommendations and countermeasures to strengthen overall security posture.
What is one thing you appreciate about working at Maveris?
One thing I appreciate about working at Maveris is the company culture. It’s something that stood out right away when I first started here. Everything from supportive colleagues and remote-friendly events to meaningful opportunities and investment in your career growth. Maveris does an excellent job at providing a platform for long-term success and retention.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
I’m always in the mindset of wanting to learn, which is especially important in cybersecurity as the threat landscape is always evolving. I don’t like being average at things I’m passionate about, so I invest a lot of time in sharpening my skills through studying and earning new certifications. I believe this helps me approach problems from different perspectives, keeps me motivated, and directly contributes to my success.
What made you choose or how did you end up in this career field?
I remember when I was about 13, the family laptop was infected with a virus. I was fascinated by how the computer virus worked and spent a lot of time researching on how to eventually get rid of it. Looking back, it was a simple adware infection, but ever since then, I knew I wanted to do something with computers as a career.
How do you relax outside of work?
I generally try to stay active to balance the work from home life. That being said, I like to work out, so I’m currently expanding on my home gym. I also spend time outdoors with my dog. If I’m not being active, I enjoy console and PC gaming. Recently, I’ve been learning to cook and that has been rewarding as well.
What has been the best and worst part of working from home?
The best part of working from home is undoubtedly the flexibility it provides in many aspects of everyday life. You simply can’t beat that. The worst part is probably the decreased social aspect. However, I think the pros far outweigh the cons.
A word from one of Manuel’s team members:
I wanted to highlight Manuel because he exemplifies professionalism in the workplace and is always looking for new ways to understand adversarial behavior and expand his skill set. He is quick to jump into issues and help his teammates and has established himself as a trusted thought leader within VA CSOC.
