It’s the most Maveristmas time of the year!
This was our fifth year celebrating Maveristmas and a great time was had by all! Not familiar with Maveristmas? Be sure to check out our post about Maveristmas 4.0 and others within our site.
On December 2nd we held a kickoff event for all who were able to attend where we announced the winning logo, shared the rest of the upcoming competitions, and tried to build excitement for the event. With the busy holiday season, we staggered the due dates for the competitions, allowing additional time for entries that may take more effort to put together.
THE COMPETITIONS
LOGO COMPETITION
The event started with a competition that crowdsourced a logo. Each team member was able to use just about any means they had to create an image that would be featured as our logo. The only rule provided was that the entirety of the image could not be generated using artificial intelligence. The winning image is shown below.
BUILD-IT
This is a Maveristmas staple where we provided team members a blank slate and challenged them to submit an item of their making that represented Maveristmas to them. We received gingerbread houses, lego creations, popsicle stick designs, 3D printed items, and much more.
COOKIE DECORATING
This is a tasty event that allows team members to submit just about any confectionary creation that they make or decorate.
DESK DECORATING CONTEST
Back into rotation this year, we provided three categories for voting on this competition: Most Festive, Most Maveris, and Best Decorated While Still Usable.
MAVERIS RECON
NEW! In the spirit of cyber sleuthing, each team member was given a list of 30 statements. The goal was to search out team members throughout the company until you found a person who could truthfully make a statement. For each statement they were successfully able to associate with a different team member, they were awarded points. A few of the statements were:
-
-
- I am a twin.
- I prefer pie over cake.
- I can change a car tire.
- My day starts before 6 am.
- I was homeschooled.
- I like to quilt.
- I have been on a blind date.
- I have never seen snow.
-
No one in the company was successful in finding someone for the last statement. In all, this new competition was a great way for people to break the ice when they reached out to those throughout the company they had not previously interacted with. A new team member shared that the Recon competition made her feel less reluctant about contacting others to get to know them because they had a common goal.
SCAVENGER HUNT
This challenge encourages team members to snap a selfie with various items they might find during the season. We hear a lot of families have fun with this challenge as children point out items while they are out and about which their family needs to capture a picture with. If you take a look at some of the images below, you can see some team members took liberty in the interpretation of certain items.
TALENT SHOW
The biggest and often craziest challenge is the Talent Show. Each year we receive some truly interesting displays of talent, but we usually get your traditional instrument and/or singing entries as well.
VOLUNTEERING
What holiday season is complete without spending time focusing on and serving others. As part of Maveristmas we encourage every team member to seek out an opportunity within their community where they can make a difference.
This year, team members volunteered at homeless shelters and nursing homes, donated gifts and hygeine supplies to those in need, served a organizations and events for Veterans and children, placed wreaths on the graves of our nations Veterans…and so much more!
VIRTUAL TOY DRIVE
Together the team exceeded our goal and donated $5,620 to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). To find out more about CHOP and ways you or your team might be able to help, visit their DonorDrive website.
With each competition, the Maveris team was able to have a little fun, get to know each other a bit better, and relax a little during this busy holiday season. This event is one of the purposeful ways Maveris leans into building culture and a spirit of comradery across a workforce that is dispersed throughout the United States.
